A round table discussion exploring the new possibilities for accessing archival finding aids on the internet.

Experts in the field of finding aid development, information technologists, and other people interested in web access to archives.
Overall purpose and significance of session:
This session will serve as an exchange of national experience regarding issues concerning Internet access to finding aids and archival documents and will present the Russian experience and the experience of the United Kingdom National Archives (TNA) in solving such problems. It seeks to identify optimal solutions for the effective functioning of archival finding aids on the web which could serve as a basis for ICA recommendations on the presentation of the online findings aids.
Content description:
The discussion will focus on the methodological, technological and organizational questions relating to the different kinds of online archival finding aids. It will take into account the possibilities of different kinds of online finding aids for consistently ensuring access to archival documents. The session will also offer an overview of the UK National Archives approach to online services: from retroconversion and online finding aids to digitisation, global search engines, wikis and a new online catalogue for born-digital records.
