Abstract:
One of the missions of archives is keeping and securing records and documents of organizations even in case of various kinds of crisis. In this session, leading researchers and experts in Japan will present how records and archives were preserved, secured and reconstructed when they faced the different kinds of crisis such as business bankruptcy, decline in a specific industry sector by the change of industrial structures, natural disasters, man-made disasters like war. Also problems, approaches, future directions on security of archives including rights handling and technical solutions will be discussed.
Target audience:
Anyone who has interests in the session theme will be welcome.
Overall purpose and significance of session:
We will present three case studies on archives which went through crisis caused by natural disasters and man-made disasters such as earthquake or bankruptcy.
Content description:
This session will introduce how records and archives were preserved, secured, or reconstructed in the following four cases: bankrupt of the world's business giant; decline of coal industry due to rapid changes of industrial structures; records management and risk management in nuclear industry for disaster prevention; and reconstruction of records lost during the war.
