Abstract:
Rapid technological development and social progress have greatly changed the archival landscape. New archival media are emerging; the way archives are managed is changing; and demands for access to archives from all circles of society are increasingly high. However, because of the unstable situation of a contingent of archivists and records managers, especially at institutional and local levels, we are facing a challenge of providing fast and efficient training for the entrants of our profession. The Chinese archival community has made some effort to explore ways of improving efficiency and quality of professional training.
Overall purpose and significance of session:
This session is aimed at sharing our experience with those who are interested in the topic.
Content description:
The session consists of three presentations. The first will focus on skill training for entry-level archivists; the second will introduce an experiment of on-line education and training initiated by the Chinese Archives Society; and the third will introduce the professional development program in Hong Kong which is run by EASTICA.
