Abstract:
The French national archives celebrates in 2008 the bicentennial anniversary of its installation by Napoleon in the historic heart of Paris. In its 200th year the institution is undergoing a profound reorganization and has launched construction on a new building in Pierrefitte-sur-Seine. Accompanying this project are reflections on conservation standards, strategies for repackaging and moving holdings, digitizing finding aids, and developing a new archival information system.

The purpose of the session is to discuss current efforts to modernize the French National Archives and to present the French experience in the framework of a large scale program.
Content description:
The round table will be launched by the Director of the National Archives and will present the major aspects of the project underway, including recounting and reconditioning fonds, digitizing finding aids, moving large masses of documents, creating a new archival information system, choosing an architect (the design of Massimiliano Fucksas was chosen), pre-project planning and so on.
