Abstract:
The session will present an overview of different policies and traditions in taking care of sports archives – both nationally and internationally. The introductory paper will discuss the situation of sports archives worldwide, stressing the versatile levels of ambition in safeguarding them, present and discuss some model solutions, pointing out questions of responsibility, as well as major threats related to the safeguarding of sports archives.
The session will also present two local aspects of sports archiving, pointing out typical features of the way to handle sports documents. One case is from Senegal, representing an African tradition, the other one presents the situation in Malaysia from the perspective of the National Olympic Council.
